Ramakrishnan Ramesh

Ramakrishnan Ramesh is a PhD candidate at NTU Singapore's School of Art, Design and Media, investigating contemporary Asian visual culture through practice-based photography and ethnographic fieldwork. His dissertation examines Faithscapes along the Ganges in Varanasi and Kolkata, integrating key actors' oral narratives with visual documentation.
A mature student passionate about photography and visual culture, Ramesh holds an MA in Asian Art Histories from Goldsmiths/LASALLE Singapore and an MBA from the prestigious management institute XLRI. Before doctoral study, he spent three decades in senior regional roles across Asia-Pacific at P&G, Philips, Pernod Ricard, and Danone, developing deep cross-cultural expertise throughout Hong Kong/China, Southeast Asia, and India.
He has published several photo books including Ram Naam Satya Hai (Varanasi ghats), Thaipusam (Singapore Hindu devotional practice), Ma Durga Asche (Kolkata festivals), and Borobudur (Buddhist heritage).
His photographic work has been exhibited in Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand, and he has completed artist residencies across Southeast Asia exploring river cultures, sacred geography, and urban ritual landscapes
